Mom telling you to drop the video game and pick up a good book? Then stop here for the ultimate KidChrisAroundTown book review. You'll get lost in literature as I share great fiction and non-fiction books that will take you on magical adventures and journies that make you feel like you were right there in that moment in history!

I give to you, one in The New York Times Bestselling series, "I Survived the Japanese Tsunami, 2011," (Lauren Tarshis). And yes, the book is actually as intense as its' name.

So there’s this kid, Ben, who lives in California and his dad is an F-16 pilot. Ben's dad meets his untimely fate in a car wreck. His mom tells him they’re going to the place where his dad grew up I Japan. While they’re there, his brother, Harry, climbs a tree and falls out of it – bad idea. They take Harry to the doctor to get stitches. And you thought the stitches were bad. When they get back home, an earthquake hits! Ben and Harry go under the bed in an escape to safety and get rescued by their mom and uncle. As they try to figure out what happened, they look out at the ocean and determine that the earthquake caused a tsunami! With his mom, uncle, and little brother, they get into his uncle’s car to try to escape the tsunami, but it catches up to them and wipes his mom, uncle, and yes, even Harry, out of the car and Ben is left on his own. By luck, he manages to make it to a school on top of a hill where he is put in charge of three little kids who were also found. From there, he goes up to the basketball court. This is where he sees his little bro running toward him – but wait, it gets much better! Then, his mom and uncle come running up. They all survived!
